Vape – New Nicotine Cap and Flavor Restrictions

On July 8, 2021; by Luis Maschietto

The Canadian federal government will be publishing guidance for the federal nicotine concentration/strength limit in their latest Canada Gazette Part II which is set to be released on June 23rd.

We expect this new limitation to come into effect on July 23rd, 2021.

We will continue to sell concentrations over 20mg/mL until allowed - after the new limitation starts, we will be capping all of our e-liquids/e-juices and pods to 20mg/mL maximum.

"What to do if I currently vape more than 20mg/mL?"

We have some suggestions that may help you with the nicotine cap:

  1. Stock up on a number of different e-liquid or pods strengths strategically to help you lower your nicotine. For example, if you vape 50mg/mL (5%) - We recommend (while you can) stocking up some bottles of your currently nicotine strength plus some 30mg/mL (3%) to 35mg/mL (3.5%), and some at 20mg/mL (2%) to help you get down to 20mg/mL.
    • Tank based Vape:If you consume e-liquid bottles like Serenity, you can have even lower steps between the nicotine strengths; 60mg/mL, 50mg/mL, 40mg/mL, 30mg/mL, 20mg/mL.
    • Pods and Disposable Systems:If you use Pod and/or Disposable Systems like STLTH, you can start having two devices; one loaded with your current nicotine strength; the other one with your target strength nicotine. You alternate the puffs between them for a couple days before fully passing to your target strength. Repeat the process until you get as lower as 20mg/mL (2%).
  2. Switch to freebase nicotine (if you use nicotine salts tank based mods). 18mg of freebase nicotine will give you a similar throat hit as 35mg/mL (3.5%) of nicotine salt e-liquid.
  3. Increase your power. If your device allows it, choose a coil that produces more power, or get a device that can. (Feel free to ask us for suggestions and we'll be glad to help!)

This change appears to also affect DIY users as the nicotine base will also be capped to 20mg/mL for retail purchases. Wholesale orders will be able to continue purchasing 100mg/mL.

Federal Flavor Ban Announced

The Canadian federal government published guidance for the federal flavor ban in their latest Canada Gazette Part I (https://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2021/2021-06-19/html/reg2-eng.html)

The federal government is proposing a prohibition on all flavors other than Tobacco, Mint and Menthol.

I short words, if it smells like anything other than tobacco, mint or menthol, it is prohibited for sale in all of Canada.

We will publish more updates as it comes.
